Friday of the 4th Week of Lent
Wis 2:1,12-22
Jn 7:1-2,10,25-30
“You know me, and you know where I come from? But I have not come of my own accord; he who sent me is true, and him you do not know. I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.”
There will always be times where we just sit and reflect and wonder what we are doing with our lives. We find no meaning, no purpose, we want more yet we do not know exactly what we want or what we need. We explore, we learn as we believe that knowledge is power. This power is then questioned in the readings for today. As we read in the first reading, “He professes to have knowledge of God, and calls himself a child of the Lord. He became to us a reproof of our thoughts; the very sight of him is a burden to us, because his manner of life is unlike that of others, and his ways are strange. We are considered by him as something base, and he avoids our ways as unclean; he calls the last end of the righteous happy, and boasts that God is his father.” — (Wis 2:13-16)
The Father’s power is a different kind of power. His power isn’t about showing how good He is but how good we can be. And even the goodness within us arises because of the goodness of others. We see this awareness in Jesus as He is sent to this world for a mission, not His but the Father’s. Jesus, born in a manger, spends time with tax collectors and sinners, has fishermen as His disciples, washes His disciples feet, humiliated, crucified, died on the cross. This is His power and His power is filled with love and is shared with all.
“You know me, and you know where I come from? But I have not come of my own accord; he who sent me is true, and him you do not know. I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.”
We all know the stories, but do we know the Gospel? Do we know the truth? Jesus came into this world for a purpose and today we are here for the same purpose, to grow in holiness towards Christ and bring Christ to others. Why do we need to do so? Because it is exactly in doing so will we come to realise our identity, it’s only in doing so that our lives will make sense, that our lives will be complete.

Prayer: Dear Lord, most of us haven’t even reached the stage to get to know you better because we are struggling to find ourselves, our identity. Help us to turn to you first, for if we know the Father, we will know ourselves as brothers and sisters in Christ. Help us to learn to trust, not just anyone, but you first. Trust in Your plan, trust in our purpose, trust in our identity. Amen.
Thanksgiving: Thank you Lord for your life. Thank you for your obedience and your patience with our ignorance. Thank you for your grace.
