25 December, Monday — A Special Time of Waiting

Dear Oxygen readers,

The Core Team wishes one and all a blessed, peaceful and joyous Christmas filled with God’s graces and love. May He continue to light out paths and guide us on our journeys as we come to know Him more.

Christmas Day — Vigil Mass

Isa 62:1-5
Acts 13:16-17,22-25
Mt 1:1-25

…you shall be called ‘My Delight’

With all the challenges in 2023 and the daily hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, it would be easy to fall into the trap of always setting our eyes on the tasks we must do to drive our careers and lives. Our lives go beyond earthly years and bear deeper meaning, but we must repeatedly remember this more profound purpose.

I have been engrossed in my work and have been focused on driving the work at my job. Challenges we face daily have a way of wearing down one’s purpose in life… in a way, I can say we tend to get jaded.

The first reading of today took my breath away.

It took my breath away as I was reminded of how much our God loves us, of how He demonstrates this love and confidence in us so proudly. Reading those words in Isaiah put a spring in my step and took my thoughts away from the daily grind of life. It reminded me that I will ultimately return to the Father to live life eternally.

I am also reminded of how important it is to remain connected with our Lord. In keeping our relationship close, we will continue to grow in faith and love. It is this connection, also, that gives us strength as we keep vigil, as we wait to join Him in eternal life; and today, as we, the faithful, keep vigil in joyful anticipation of the Nativity.

(Today’s OXYGEN by Paul Wee)

Prayer: Father God, help us to keep awake as we anticipate the birth of Your Son, Jesus.

Thanksgiving: Thank You, Lord, for this time as we continue to exercise and deepen our faith waiting for Your birth.
