4th Sunday of Advent
Mic 5:1-4
Heb 10:5-10
Lk 1:39-45
He will stand and feed his flock with the power of the Lord.
Today’s first reading reminds us that God’s standards are different from the standards of the world. The reading speaks of God’s prophecy of turning Bethlehem from an insignificant, humble town to one that will produce a ruler of Israel. This parallel can also be drawn to the birth of Jesus later, where he was born of humble origins in the manger, but eventually become the Redeemer of mankind.
As I grow to understand God’s love and deepen my faith in him, I have come to learn humility in my weakness. Because I know that it is where I can rely on God to strengthen me and use me as I am. It is also a reminder that whatever little I can give is good enough for him. This is a daily reminder I carry to all areas of my life – both in the areas of my work and personal life. Sometimes, where I struggle with confidence or wonder if I’m good enough in fulfilling a task or holding a conversation, I will remind myself that God will empower me to make the best decision that would best glorify His love.
Brothers and sisters, God is all-powerful and always merciful. All He asks is for us to surrender in humility and to have a child-like faith so that He can ‘feed’ us and work His miracles within us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I pray that you will grant me humility to continue trusting in your love and empowerment over me, to trust that you will make me strong through my weakness.
Thanksgiving: Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me the opportunities and lessons to surrender and learn to draw strength from you.
