13 March, Thursday — Open doors

Thursday of the 1st Week of Lent

Est 4:17
Mt 7:7-12

“…the one who knocks will always have the door opened to him.”

We often hear the saying “when a door closes, another opens”. Many times, this relates to when a particular phase of our life comes to an end, and we move on to something else. But as I try to connect this back to today’s gospel when Jesus said to His disciples “…the one who knocks will always have the door opened to him” I see that indeed when a door closes in our life, another opens, but it does not just open on its own. I choose to believe that the door opens because of the intervention of God.

Looking back on my life, I see this happening a number of times, when situations and phases of life change; whether it be relationships or at work. And when I felt lost and think that I have no other avenue to choose, I seek God’s help in prayer, and without fail, He shows up; He opens yet another door for me.

As I write this reflection, it also serves as a reminder to myself that whenever I look for signs, I do not need to look any further, because God is there with me and for me. All I need to do is to knock and to ask, and then the door will be opened to me.

In this season of Lent, may we be challenged to knock on the door and turn to the Lord with a repentant heart, so that when Easter comes, we will rise to new life and enter a new door, one that God has prepared for us.

(Today’s OXYGEN by Nicholas Lee)

Prayer: Lord, help me to come to You with courage and to knock and ask for what I need, knowing that You will open the door to me at the right time.

Thanksgiving: Thank you, Lord, for being faithful and generous to me at every moment of my life.
