Friday of Week 30 in Ordinary Time
Rm 9:1-5
Lk 14:1-6
“Is it against the law to cure a man on the sabbath?”
In today’s Gospel, Jesus heals a man with dropsy on the Sabbath, challenging the Pharisees’ rigid interpretation of the law. He reveals that mercy and compassion should take precedence over blind adherence to rules. True faith, Jesus teaches, is not about legalistic observance but about responding to human needs, choosing love over ritual when the two come into tension.
My area of work is compliance-heavy and process-heavy by nature. While structure and adherence to procedures are important, I’m reminded that true purpose lies not merely in following the rules, but in serving people with care and understanding. Good administration is meant to serve and uplift, and to bring structure that enables compassion, rather than replace it.
Brothers and sisters, let us remind ourselves to never let laws or legality stop us from being/doing/acting in the Spirit, especially when our fellow Christian brethren are in dire need.
(Today’s OXYGEN by Grace Yee)
Prayer: Dear Lord, teach me to balance diligence with compassion; that in managing processes and policies, I may never lose sight of the people they are meant to serve.
Thanksgiving: Dear Lord, I thank you that my area of work reminds me that even in structure and systems, Your love and care can be reflected for the people I interact with.
