27 November, Thursday — He endures forever

Tuesday of Week 34 in Ordinary Time

Dan 6:12-28
Lk 21:20-28

“He is the living God, he endures forever….”

Our God is a powerful God. And as the Prophet Daniel tells us today, “He is the living God, he endures forever…”

I’ve had the privilege and blessing of hearing numerous stories of how God has intervened and acted in the lives of friends and acquaintances to save them, and help them in times of trouble. And I believe that each one of these stories are signs to remind us that God is near to us, and that He never abandons us.

While we may be distracted and lose our way sometimes, He is always close to us — to protect us and keep us from harm.

I went through a short but difficult period recently with my spouse. When everything happened, I was so angry and stormed into a nearby adoration chapel and threw myself before God. I thought that that session would be one where I would grumble, curse and complain about my situation. But instead, all I could do was just remain silent, even though a thousand and one thoughts were running through my mind.

But God was quietly working behind the scenes, He was already planning healing and reconciliation between my wife and I. By God’s grace, one grace-filled thing led to another, and there was healing when the day and night came to an end.

Of course, having the courage and strength to just surrender and trust God to take care of everything doesn’t come easy. I’m sure many of us would want to rationalise and be in control of situations and problems in our lives because we think we know better. But like Daniel, can we just remain still and allow God to act in our stead? Can we trust God to be the driver and steer the course for us?

Perhaps that is God’s challenge to us in our times of difficulty; to just surrender and allow Him to be God and take us on a journey of self-discovery and faith. For when we truly do that, then can we confidently say, like Daniel, that “He is the living God, he endures forever…”

(Today’s OXYGEN by Nicholas Lee)

Prayer: Lord, help me to confidently surrender my life to you so that you can lead me on this journey of faith.

Thanksgiving: Lord, thank you for being so close to me, and for always helping me when I am in need.
