‘God-is-with-us’
It has been a year since we moved into our current house and as I reflect back on the year gone by, I can see how God has blessed me tremendously with so much more than I could ever have imagined. From being able to sing and glorify Him at mass each Sunday with my amazing choir, to enjoying a full-on ‘soak’ each 2nd Saturday of the month at the overnight vigils in the centre — where I also serve at various retreats to help attendees encounter Christ personally — He has been a constant by my side.
At a recent lunch gathering with some ex-colleagues, I shared about how important it was for everyone to have that close-knit circle of a handful of friends one can call upon in times of crisis or need. As I looked back over the past decades and recalled past episodes, I realised that apart from one (OK, maybe 2 or 3), the names changed every few years.
Today, as I celebrate another year around the sun, I pondered again on who is truly going to have my back. Brothers and sisters, it is not an easy list to make – I know I had to think pretty hard. But I encourage you to sit down and spend a few minutes thinking it through. Some of us may already know the names instinctively because of what we have gone through in our own lives.
All I ask is this – does the first name that comes to mind begin with ‘G’?

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, you surround us with your presence through our highs and lows in life. We humbly beseech you to always show us your hand in everything that we do so that we never take You for granted.
Thanksgiving: Thank you Lord, for being always at our side, gently nudging and cajoling us as we stumble along in life. Thank you for never forsaking us and for being a constant in all our days.
